What Makes Us the Best Place to Shop Used Cars?

What makes us the best place to shop for a used car? Well, one reason is that we will let you take a test drive with your dog. We get it; our pets are a part of our family, so we make them feel right home. If Fido wants to ride along with you on your test drive, we encourage it.

There's more, not all dealerships want to help make your car-buying experience hassle-free, enjoyable even, but we promise to make your shopping experience as easy as possible and rewarding. After all, your ultimate goal is to drive home in a vehicle that is perfect for you and fits all of your needs, and our friendly and knowledgeable staff is here to help. Buying a used vehicle can sometimes feel, well, impersonal, but that's not how we do things at Williams Subaru. When shopping with us, you benefit from experiences that are rooted in exceptional customer service. We are not here just to sell you a used car, truck, or SUV; we are here to ensure a seamless car-buying process every step of the way.

An Impressive Inventory to Choose From

From Subarus to Fords, we offer an impressive inventory of used cars, trucks, and SUVs. We understand that having a lot of choices matters when shopping for a used vehicle. From time to time, you find yourself having to replace a broken appliance. Usually, it's not that big of a deal; you simply do a little research on what you want and need and make a purchase. It's a task we have all had to do.

But what if you are shopping for a refrigerator and the appliance store you choose offers a sparse selection. You are either not going to find what you really need, or you are going to wind up with something you don't want. Sure, the refrigerator you bought is stainless steel, and it looks great, if only it matched a little better with the rest of your black appliances.

Some dealerships are counting on you just settling for whatever they may have on their lot. After all, what do they care about what you drive home in? You might have a checklist of 10 things you want in a used car, but you drive home in something that only checked off five items on that list. Now, you might learn to live with a refrigerator that doesn't meet all of your needs, but you should never settle on the vehicle you drive. Choices matter when car shopping.

Shopping for a used car is no simple task; there are steps in shopping for a used car. For example, you will probably assess your needs before buying a car, make a list of what you expect from the right car. You need to determine how many passengers you need to carry and cargo capacity. You need to decide which safety features are essential to you. It might be very important that the used vehicle you choose has a substantial towing capacity. This is just a very small example of needs that must be met in your used vehicle. In order for you to find something that will meet the majority of your needs, you will need to shop at a place with a variety of choices.

When choosing a show or movie on Netflix, having too many choices can be a bit overwhelming. We have all spent so long trying to decide what to watch that when we do find something, it's too late to watch it. The same holds true when trying to choose from a vast menu at your favorite restaurant. Linguini in clam sauce or Sicilian-style meatballs? You might as well just flip a coin. For some tasks, having too many choices is bad, but certainly not when shopping for a used car, truck, or SUV.

Subaru - All-Weather Performance

As your premier Charlotte used car dealer, you can expect to find plenty of used Subarus in our inventory. This is a point of great pride for us because it shows the reliability, longevity, and versatility of the Subaru brand. So, how did Subaru build this reputation? Believe it or not, the automaker was late to the game, trailing automakers like Nissan and Toyota to the American market.

Subaru had high hopes for American success, but that proved to be harder than expected after its Japanese minicar, known as the Subaru 360, failed to impress despite being more affordable than the popular Volkswagen Beetle. Digging in its heels, Subaru returned to the drawing board and debuted its first boxer-powered sedan with front-wheel drive-the FF-1. Like its predecessor, the FF-1 failed to make a lasting impression in a trend that continued until 1975 when Subaru finally caught a break with the 4x4 DL/GL, which earned praise from publications like Car and Driver.

Although Subaru wasn't quite yet aware of it, the automaker had turned a corner in the American market and earned some much-needed attention. This fueled Subaru's lineup until the mid-1990s, when the automaker introduced the Outback, a wagon that would turn everything around for the brand. Riding this wave of success, Subaru debuted its second most popular nameplate-the Forester-just a few years later and introduced Americans to the award-winning, high-performance Impreza WRX in 2002.

Fast forward two decades, and you'll find the Outback, Forester, and WRX are staples in the Subaru lineup. These models, along with a host of others like the Crosstrek and Ascent, are remarkable finds on our pre-owned lot. They are laden with innovative technology and continue Subaru's signature with its standard boxer engine and symmetrical all-wheel drive, both of which add to Subaru's reputation for building capable, reliable, and versatile vehicles that can go anywhere adventure calls.

Toyota - Long-Term Reliability

Did you know the Toyota brand as we know it today has its roots in the textile business in Japan? In 1929, Kiichiro Toyoda pursued his interests in automobiles by traveling to the United States to learn more about the automotive industry. Seeing the potential for growth, Toyoda returned home and launched an automotive division under his father's company, Toyoda Automatic Loom Works. Over the next several decades, the company debuted several models, but the aftermath of World War II left them financially unstable and with no other choice but to look abroad.

By the late 1950s, Toyota set its sights on America and established its headquarters in Hollywood, California in 1957. With the opening, Toyota brought one Land Cruiser and 287 Toyopet Crown sedans, the latter of which the automaker envisioned would make a massive impact on American soil. Sadly, Toyota was wrong. The Toyopet was overpriced and underpowered, which forced Toyota to reevaluate its understanding of what American drivers wanted. Fortunately, Toyota got it right the second time after designing the Corona specifically for Americans with its powerful engine and luxuries like air conditioning.

The success of the Corona marked a turning point for Toyota in America and paved the way for models like the Corolla, which later became the best-selling passenger car in the world. By the 1970s, Toyota earned its highest honor in America as the top import brand, ultimately securing its position in the American automotive industry. That has led to widespread success as Toyota continues to meet the evolving needs of drivers, generation after generation.

You'll see this evolution firsthand in our inventory of pre-owned Toyotas. Popular models like the Corolla and Camry hold their place in the fleet and remain popular choices for those looking for efficiency and luxury. Toyota, however, also answers plenty of other demands with workhorses like the Tundra, versatile adventurers like the Tacoma, and spacious SUVs like the 4Runner and Sequoia. These models offer a wide range of capability, versatility, and practicality that's hard to beat.

Honda - Sporty and Efficient

While models like the Accord and Civic immediately come to mind when you think of Honda, the automaker actually got its start on two wheels. Honda was established in 1948 and immediately proved its ingenuity with the debut of the Dream D-type motorcycle. By the next decade, Honda made its way to America and, by 1968, sold its one-millionth motorcycle in the United States. This was no easy feat and earned Honda the top honor as the largest motorcycle manufacturer in the world, a title held since the late 1950s.

Building on its two-wheeled success, Honda debuted its first vehicle, the N600, in America in 1969. The automaker continued to build its reputation in the four-wheel segment with the Civic, which debuted in 1972, and the Accord, which debuted in 1976 and became the best-selling passenger car in America. The models forever changed the American landscape and Honda's future in the industry; a future built around its ability to deliver reliable and practical vehicles at affordable prices.

By the 1990s, the Accord and Civic were joined by models like the Passport and the CR-V, comfortable SUVs that left a lasting impression. The new millennium ushered in the Insight Hybrid, the first hybrid available in North America. It also marked Honda's debut in the truck segment with the award-winning Ridgeline, a Honda-style road warrior inside and out.

Today, models like the Accord, Civic, CR-V, and Ridgeline are popular in the Honda fleet. They also have plenty of company, with Honda showcasing its talents to answer the various demands of its customers with a wide variety of models. A quick glance at our pre-owned inventory, and you'll see this variety firsthand, from models like the Odyssey minivan to SUVs like the HR-V, Pilot, and Passport.

Volvo - A Legacy of Safety

Did you know that Volvo is credited with designing the three-point seatbelt? If you know Volvo's history, this isn't a surprising fact as the automaker got its start in 1927 with the goal of offering paramount quality and safety in its vehicles. To say Volvo accomplished this is an understatement.

Although Volvo got off to a slow start in its native Sweden, the company eventually found its rhythm with models like the PV651, PV36, PV51, PV444, and PV544. By the 1950s, the automaker expanded its reach to America and introduced the world to innovations like the three-point seatbelt, a standard that drastically impacted the global automotive industry and earned Volvo its reputation as a leader in safety and innovation.

Volvo's reputation flourished over the next several decades as the automaker unveiled exclusive safety features like padded dashboards and energy-absorbing crumple zones that reduced injury in an impact. The 1980s and 1990s brought even more innovation with rear-facing child seats and childproof locks, both of which were exclusive to the Volvo lineup at the time. By the new millennium, Volvo ushered its lineup into the future with modern redesigns that replaced the boxy look of previous models while setting new standards of safety across the industry.

Today, anyone who prioritizes safety above everything else knows to shop the Volvo lineup. What truly sets Volvo apart is that you can shop new or used models like the XC60, XC90, S60, S90, or V90 with confidence because you know that you're buying a vehicle that offers the best, most innovative safety features available. With Volvo now focused on modern technology as well as safety, you can rest assured knowing that you'll find plenty of intuitive features across the lineup, whether you're looking for smartphone integration and navigation or advanced safety and driver-assist tools that make your time behind the wheel more enjoyable wherever the road leads.
