Why Does My Vehicle Need DataDots?
According to the FBI, a car is stolen every 26.4 seconds in the United States. In fact, there were over 800,000 automobiles stolen in the U.S. last year. Alarm systems are not enough as professional thieves easily deactivate them. However, with DataDot's state of the art technology, your theft deterrent system will never be removed or deactivated. You can also save up to 20% on your car insurance!
How Do DataDots Protect Your Vehicle?
When marked with a unique identifying number, law enforcement agencies are assisted in identifying the true owner of the vehicle. Professional thieves steal vehicles so they can resell the parts quickly and easily. They will not steal a vehicle that they cannot sell. By installing a DataDot system, you make it much harder for a thief to steal your vehicle, and therefore, a far less desirable target.
How Big Are DataDots?
DataDots are tiny discs, about the size of a grain of sand, each laser etched with multiple lines of code.
How Are The DataDots Applied?
Thousands of DataDots are applied to vehicles using a special adhesive specially designed for DataDots which contains an ultra-violet component that glows under black lights typically used by law enforcement and forensic personnel. Once applied, DataDots are resistant to acids, solvents, road salts, and heat. Significant damage to the vehicle would need to be done to remove every single DataDot.
How Are DataDots Located & Read?
Vehicle window stickers and engine decals quickly identify if DataDots have been applied to the vehicle. Standard black lights will quickly identify the presence of DataDots and the adhesive glow on marked components. The DataDots are read using a simple 30X magnifying reader.
Why Is Registering My DataDot Information Important?
Once the unique identifying number is read, law enforcement will go to DataDot USA's website or use their own internal auto theft department database to link that number to the owner's information. This helps in returning the stolen parts/vehicle and ultimately aiding in prosecuting thieves in the court of law. If your vehicle is stolen and not recovered within 30 days, DataDot will pay you $2,500 on top of your insurance settlement!
